Thank you so much for your fun guest post on The Inspired Room! I’m so glad we’ve met and are now friends! xo
Thank you Melissa! You are such a wonderful person and friend! I loved doing the guest blog! These last few days have been so much fun!!!
Don’t forget to write me one, when I move to Texas. LOVE the cards. I can’t decide which one I like the most they are all so fun.
Of course I wont forget! Love you Tat!
[...] a dear and go visit her blog for the lovely [...]
I have always loved seeing old windows being used as picture frames. I have one in my garage waiting to be reclaimed.
I enjoyed reading about your room makeover and I would love to win these beautiful cards!
Tracey-
I love that as well ! Send me a photo of you project when its done! I would love to see it!
Those cards are lovely. I have seen a lot of curbside finds reclaimed, reused, or re-purposed, which I love. I found an old bench that way and made it over for my front porch. I loved watching the video of your new bedroom – congrats.
Thank you Grace! I love pieces that have a story! So much better than buying brand-new~
My folks inherited the family farm that belonged to my great grandparents. My great-grandpa built the house and barns. Recently, they wanted to preserve the barn. To do so and keep its integrity, they had to find rough hewn boards to replace those that were damaged by termites. At the same time there was quite a storm and we lost several trees. We learned there was a place that those trees could be taken to make rough hewn boards. It’s redone and looks awesome. Sturdy – but still rough and original. They also were able to reuse pieces that were only damaged in places to make some frames for in the farmhouse. People who visit are amazed at the barn and the attention to detail they put into keeping its original look.
This sounds so wonderful Kathy! Thank you for sharing!
Saw you all on the today show, what a great story!! Excited to find out about your blog and business from the Inspired Room!! I have a fruit theme in my kitchen I think these cards would look great framed!!!
Thanks Michele! Keep checking back.. this is JUST THE BEGINNING! We have big plans for Reclaimed!!
Delighted to have discovered you and your cool Reclaimed Marketplace via Melissa at The Inspired Room. Being a lover of all things lemon, you know which little lovely I’ve got my eye on! Such a wonderful giveaway, Thanks a bunch!
Thank you for stopping by!! Im a huge fan! I love lemons too. Refreshing not only to taste but even to look at! Spring time in Arizona (where we live) the air smells like a perfect mixture of lemons and oranges! yummm!
Stopping in from The Inspired Room… I so loved your story! How fantastic and exciting for you. The room looks amazing!
Love these fruit collection cards, they are CUTE!
Someone that has reclaimed or re-purposed something… my husband and I have re-purposed an old cabinet from a garage to be our entertainment stand in our living room and re-purposed an antique incubator from my dad’s farm to be our coffee table!
These are great ideas!!! I hope to see you on here again soon Jennifer!
Wow, what a beautiful makeover that Nate did for you guys! Just amazing. I have always loved his style.
I am a big believer in re-purposing items as much as possible. I took a discarded louvered door and turned it into a hall tree years ago and still use it today. The cards are just so cute. Love the colors!
Me too! I can’t wait for his new show to start in September! What is a hall tree?
What a gorgous room done by Nate! I love your blog and website Reclaimed Marketplace! My home is filled with repurposed items! I love how you kept your brass beds and how they were incorporated into a modern space with still a warm, homey feel. Thanks for the inspiration!
YES!!! We were so happy he kept the beds! The canopy over them makes such a statement! We were a little worried about the design team wanting to polish the brass but luckily they didn’t! The tarnish is the best part! But of course they knew that.. !
Visiting from the Inspired Room post. So glad to meet you and what a great story, Nate is my favorite. What a wonderful room he made for you. Love your blog.
Thank you! That means a lot! This is all new to me! I’M LOVING IT THOUGH!!!
Hi Jessica, I came over via The Inspired Room. What fun you’ve had! I have re-purposed some vintage fruit crates by putting them on and around my desk for storage I love the old wood texture. The cards in your giveaway are darling! Thanks for the chance to win them.
Totally excited about the fruit crate idea. I am going to be on the look out for these. They would work perfect in our craft room. Our craft room is super bright and sometimes looks a bit “kiddy” it’d be nice to have the raw, old wood, to calm it down. Thanks!
I love your website! Visited it today via The Inspired Room.
My favorite repurpose was an old bunkbed ladder turned into a pot rack. Now, if only I had the ceiling height to accommodate it.
Thank you! This is just the beginning. We have some big plans for Reclaimed! Keep checking in on us! Great idea about the pot rack!
I would get the pear set, if I won. In terms of reclaiming items – I am the local moderator for Freecycle – that’s basically all we do! We keep items out of landfill by finding new homes for them. I have beautiful mosaic tables that I received through freecycle.
Really! Very neat! I’d love to here more about this. Can you send me some information?
http://www.freecycle.org/
Thank you Heidi!
I love these cards. My husband reclaimed our picture window when we replaced our windows in our house. The window is 6 panels across by 5 panels high (6 feet x 5 feet). He said he just couldn’t throw it away and refinished it and added gingerbread molding on it. I made scrapbook pages that show our family history beginning with our grandparents, parents, siblings, the two of us, our children and grandchildren. It is BEAUTIFUL!! It took a while to get my thoughts together and to finally get it done and placed on the wall. It is a wall full of memories for us and our family. Everytime we have a family gathering, which is usually about once a month, I see someone just standing and looking at it. I love to reclaim stuff and find a second life for things. To me that is making memories!!
I completely agree Betty. I love that people come over and have something to look at that truly tells a story. Very neat idea!
Wow — just over to visit from Inspired Room — your bedroom turned out so beautiful! Am in the process (very slow) of re-purposing some old frames for wall art!
Janet
Welcome to blogland Jess! I’m a newbie too! And Melissa was the one who gave me a push! LOL We have known each other since before we were mommies! And it looks like your from Oregon??? Is that right?
I live smack in the middle of Oregon wine country on a small farm……so I would love the grape cluster cards! Or the strawberries (you know how GOOD the oregon berries are), or the…..
Congratulations on your beautiful new room, and your life together with Cody. Such an adventure!!
And what a great idea for a business!! Wonderful! I’m all for reclaiming, repurposing, and recycling. I’ve got my cup of coffee and I’m going to check out your blog some more.
Good luck to you my dear! And much happiness to you and Cody!
Fiona
Fiona! So nice to meet you, and thank you for the warm welcome. Melissa is the best! I cant wait to check out your blog! I’m headed there next! Yes, Im from Oregon. West Linn, Wilsonville area. Oh how I miss those strawberries! Talk to you again soon!
Also came over from The Inspired Room, but I loooooove letterpress! What a cute giveaway
I feel like almost everything in our house is reclaimed… we are soon-to-be-weds, and have a house full of hand-me-downs, secondhand store finds, and even stuff salvaged from other people’s garbage (don’t tell!).
Haha! We are in the same boat. I think that is the best though! Congratulations on you engagement! Marriage is WONDERFUL!!
We love re-purposed antique bed-frame springs made into a garden trellis. Charming and useful. Love the makeover; congrats on being chosen!
We love re-purposed antique bed-frame springs made into a garden trellis. They are charming and useful. Love the makeover; congrats on being chosen!
That is a really good idea. Thank you!
Recently I saw a clever use for old picture frames (since you seem to appreciate them). Someone had used a 16 x 20ish size frame and attached chicken wire behind it (which I know isn’t a new idea), but then had used old costume and estate broaches to attach pretty pictures, notes, etc. It was very charming and as it turns out I have all three items sitting in my house and am going to make at least one for a new potting shed my husband has been building. I’m already collecting fun things to attach and one of the prettiest is the little reminder postcards I get from my dentist. They always have a pretty flower or something on them and are just the right size. I’m sure your readers get them from somewhere too.
Yes, I’m sure we all could find some of these neat items around the house to build this~Thanks so much for stopping by!
I have a friend who is so creative. She has used pallets and wood boxes on onw whole wall in her house to display things. She created shelves with some of the pallets. She has also used a large wooden spool that olds electrical wire and repurposed it as the coolest table. I am n the hunt for one for a gameroom table. You can see her stuff at the blog for her business at http://www.gloryhaus.com. You can read about the business at the site and then see the details of her displays on the blog that you can access from the website.
the cards are too sweet…would I use them to write a note or frame them…
I love doing things with pallets! I think I might do a post about this! There are so many neat things you can do with them and they are virtually free!
Found you through the Inside Scoop. Love your story (both of them)! I am so happy Nate kept your bed (family pieces are so important)! Enjoy every second of your life together.
The letter press cards are lovely, good luck to everyone!
Michelle
Alabama
Thanks Michelle! Hope to see you on here again soon!
found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later
Thank you! Great, we will see you soon then!!
Loved the story of your “room makeover”! I always love seeing quilts that are made with someone’s clothing. Especially if the clothes are from a parent or grandparent who has passed away, and the quilt was made for the memories of that person. I can just imagine the memories that flood back when the owner of the quilt looks at it.
I agree! This just warms my heart thinking about it. Such a wonderful idea. Your etsy store is very cute!
Tahnsk so much for the awesome giveaway! I have seen several old glass windows repurposed to disply beautiful items – art, pictures, cards, etc. I think this is a fun, inexpensive way to add character to a newer home.
What a great room redo story! It was fabulous & Nate, as usual, did a fantastic job with your room. I know you are thrilled with it. A dream come true to have Nate come in & do his magic.
Welcome to blogging! So nice to meet you & I’m sure your shop will do well. I’m a repurposer myself & love yardsales & thrifting. So much fun to use what you have to redo & refresh a space!
YES~ soo much fun! Thank you for the sweet welcome to blogging!
I love it when old things get repurposed! I recently got a small cabinet with hutch, it was a complete mess – I cleaned it up, painted it and sanded the edges and now I use it for storage in my craft room! I did the same for an old desk! I get so many comments on those pieces and it adds so much character to the room.
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
Hey Brenda! Love your blog! I agree. Adding character to the room is so important. I bet your craft room looks adorable! Hope to see you on here again! Ill be visiting you over at Peek at my Paper!
I recently repurposed an old chicken cage with a piece of cut glass and turned it into a very more chic than shabby coffee table. You site is great. I really enjoyed your story and your new bedroom is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you! Great I idea! Love your post on vintage aprons. Very cute!
How cute are these!? My birthday is this Saturday and I think they would be a lovely gift for me.
I love when people use old stools and ladders as bookshelves, old shutters and fences as headboards, old tires as swings, old bottles as vases, old doors as a painting canvas (its brilliant, old maps framed, old baby jars for holding knick knacks…I could go on and on. Reading your story on the Inspired Room cracked me up because I remembering watching that exact episode and LOVING your makeover and thinking – she is the cutest little thing ever and how blessed you were to have had experience that. I would love to win the beautiful cards. I have always been a lover of them but never fortunate enough to have them for my own. Blessings to you and your hubby always! xoxo Tammy Stonebrook
Wow, what an especially sweet message! Thank you Tammy!
Such cute notecards!
Loved your Nate room…he is so clever!
Love all the repurposing and glad more people are rethinking how to reuse something before tossing it out. In our neighborhood, anything on the curb that could be reused is always picked up by someone clever who can do something new with it.
Welcome to blogland! Loved the behind the scenes tour of your bedroom makeover. I always wonder how these people get picked…nice to know you’re “real” people!
On repurposing:
I just wrote a post about reclaimed art. Of course, my art doesn’t inspire me quite like the creativity of others! Here’s the post: http://cleangreenstart.wordpress.com/2010/08/01/repurposed-decorations-not-so-fine-art/
Best of luck with your marketplace!
Thank you! I think I’m going to like blogland! Everyone is wonderful! Haha, yah we are “real”! Loved your post!! Taking old art and making it new to fit our home is an avenue I never have thought about!! Your painting turned out adorable! I’m feeling very inspired! Thank you!
Adorable cards! Love letterpress. As for repurposing … how about my own inspiration board made from an old door?!
http://jeannewinters.blogspot.com/2009/01/ultimate-inspiration-board.html
This is great! I love this idea! And to anyone out there who doesn’t have an inspiration board, you need one! They are so much fun and a great place to store all those magazine pages you secretly tear out waiting at the dentist!
Great blog, and great giveaway. Last weekend I repurposed an old drawstring tote bag into a “pillowcase dress” for my little girl.
I love your story- my husband and I wanted to apply to let TODAY throw our wedding, but I was too impatient and didn’t want to wait until we found out if we’d won (we have a pretty unique “how we met” story and thought we’d have a good shot). Nice to meet you, Jess.
Nice to meet YOU Jess! Really, I’d love to hear your story sometime. Getting married on TODAY was amazing. But getting married period is pretty amazing no matter where or how you do it! Love the idea of the pillowcase dress. I would love to find someone who makes those to have in the Marketplace!
Love them, yes please…
Your blog is so fun Jess!
Thanks Natalie!
I loved reading the post about Nate’s makeover. You are so lucky. And your wedding pictures posted on Martha Stewart’s website are stunning. So here is my “reclaim” idea. We have a coffee table that is made out of an huge old blacksmith’s bellows. The bellows is in the closed position and three legs were added to the bottom. It is one of the coolest pieces we own.
Thank you Peggy! The photographers were amazing!! This piece sounds amazing. Im sure everyone that comes over asks about it.
I love seeing when old furniture is repainted and reclaimed as something beautiful and new…have a couple of pieces right now that we rescued from Craig’s List that need a new coat of paint!
I love Craigslist!
Loved your romantic story and what a way to kick off your marriage and future together!!
Reclaimed: We found an armoire at our church’s yard sale and painted it to match
my kitchen cabinets, and replaced the hardware to also match what we had in the kitchen.
It has a pull down that opens into a desk area and we also used it for serving. It provided
additional space without having to make cabinets. More storage, writing area, cookbook
storage, etc. $50. Looks great and is very functional.
Thanks Lynn! I can totally picture this and I love it!!!
I just read all about your room redo at The Inspired Room. What a great story and room!
I think the most useful reclaimed item I have at the moment is an old painted shutter I use in my office space. I can stick notes, samples, just all kind of things on it!
Great idea Maggie! Thank you for sharing this with us all!
Love the cards. They are so cute.
Hi Jess and Cody! It’s been a long time since we have seen/heard from you guys…but it sounds like life is going great and you are staying plenty busy
Devlin and I are very impressed with your business idea and definitely want to help spread the word in any way we can. I posted a comment on my facebook page today to help
I have myself been exploring the idea of opening a green/sustainable event planning business…and your efforts and dedication are very inspiring! Good luck with everything and get in touch if you ever have a free moment to catch up…we aren’t too far away in Chandler!
Sincerely, Nikki and Devlin
Nikki! I love your idea and can’t wait to visit! Lets try to meet up next week! Thank you for reposting today!
knock, knock,,who is it,,,,
voice of reason reminding me to sign in for this beautiful letterpress
Thanks Helena!
I posted a link on my twitter (link up there^) and on Facebook, good luck with your advertising! I love the concept, I’m so glad people are getting more into the eco conscious/repurposed/recycled thing and are focusing on less waste. Good stuff!
Thanks Jessie!
Congrats on the room makeover! It looks beautiful. As far as something “reclaimed” I like it when people take old christmas popcorn tins and paint and stencil them and use them for useful storage that looks cute and chic. I have been looking for one myself so that I can paint it and use it for cat food instead of just leaving the big bag of food sitting in the corner. I can’t find one though, maybe I’ll have to wait for Christmas and buy one!
I love the cherry cards!
Thank you Jen! Better yet, wait until after Christmas when they go on SALE!
What a great giveaway! I’m so excited about the Lemon ones! (Grant’s mothers side of the family’s last name is Lemon!) The greatest idea of a reclaimed piece was from FOUND in Mesa, Arizona and it was an old inner part of a washing machine used as a lamp shade. It was such a great idea and I could totally see that in my home!!
Thanks B~ Yes, I know the exact light you are talking about! One of my personal favs as well!
Great give-a-way! I loved the explanation behind the master room re-do. I love Nate and was so glad to hear how genuine he is. You never know if a person really is that way when you see them on TV but I’ve followed him for several years and have always enjoyed his segments as he seems so nice and real! The bedroom is fabulous:) The colors, flooring, and the office area. It’s always hard I think to make a room do several things and that was accomplished. Glad to see he kept the really special items that mean alot to you. Congrats!
Laura T
He truly was that genuine. You will have to tune into his new show. It starts September 13th!
I love the cards–a good motivation for finishing up my thank-you cards! Do you remember Jessica West from high school? She took an old door and hung it up horizontally on her living room wall. It looks really cool! One of my favorite hobbies is looking for good “tree lawn” finds. Most of the furniture and toys in our home are things we have found on the tree lawn (curbside) and cleaned up/refinished. I will post an entry for your blog and giveaway on my 2 blogs: http://www.broadfam.blogspot.com AND http://www.hollysprojectblog.blogspot.com
Thank you so much Holly! Your blogs are adorable!! They are very fun and real to read! Of course I remember Jessica West! I bet that looks great! Miss you!
I blogged about your give-a-way on my blog at http://www.aquiltersnest.blogspot.com
I forgot to mention earlier that I bought a cabinet from a family in Centralia WA that makes cabinets out of reclaimed barn wood and I love it. It holds alot of my longarm quilting supplies!
Laura T
Nice to see you again Laura! Thanks for the blog post!!! We really appreciate it!!
Coolio. So glad your venture is getting more adventurous. And hey, great find in Found!
Good luck to you and Cody , Jessica. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
THIS GIVE-A-WAY IS NOW OVER!!
GOOD NIGHT FRIENDS!
